China Now in Scotland Festival E-mail

China Now in Scotland is part of the largest festival of Chinese Culture ever to take place in the UK. It is a celebration of a vibrant, dynamic and fast-evolving nation.  This festival is designed to showcase the best of Chinese culture to an audience of University students, staff and members of the local community.
 
The programme incorporates a Basketball Challenge Match, fantastic Dance and Music Performances, lectures on the History of Modern China Through Film and Traditional Chinese Medicine, a Calligraphy Workshop, a Kung Fu Demonstration,  a Chinese Tea Ceremony and the festival closes with a Chinese Cooking Competition.

Tuesday 25th November is the festival's Cultural Night. Harmony Chinese Music Ensemble will perform a selection of the beautiful melodies and rousing dance music of China like Purple Bamboo (Zi Zhu Diao), Kangding Love Song, Golden Snake (Jin She Guang Wu) and an improvisation.  The performers are Kimho Ip - Yang Qin (hammered dulcimer), Cheng Ying Chuang - Ruan ('moon' guitar), Eddie McGuire - Di (bamboo flute), Hooi Ling Eng - Percussion, Willem Mathlener - Violin.  The Hong Lok Dragon & Lion Dancing Troupe will entertain us with their amazing agility of the lion dance and the young people of Glasgow Oriental Dancing Association (GODA) will delight us with their performance of traditional Chinese and contemporary dances.
