Mid-Autumn Festival |

Wednesday 17 September 2008, 5pm - 7pm Robertson Trust Centre, Central College, Glasgow The Harmony Ensemble will mark the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, a celebration of the summer's harvest while the full moon is at its brightest, with a selection of melodies for this celebration at Central College. This is an event for local Scottish students and staff from different educational institutions to learn about the culture and for the Chinese community to have an opportunity to celebrate the festivity in Glasgow. |

Join us in celebrating the Olympic Games Handover in George Square. Harmony Ensemble will be performing between 1.00 and 2.00pm at this free event. Other activities include

- Big Screen live feed of the Beijing closing ceremony and the London handover
- Official Flag Handover and Presentation
- A public singalong with the BBC's 'Sing the Nation'; Glasgow's 'regional song' is the Bonnie Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond

Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2008 |

Saturday 23 August 2008 - 8pm Canongate Kirk, Edinburgh Harmony is delighted to make its 3rd appearance in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. We will be presenting a programme of solo and group pieces played on traditional Chinese instruments. As in previous appearances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Meimei will be entrancing the audience with her dances. We are delighted to welcome a new member to the group, Fong Liu, who has an amazing ability to adapt her voice to a wide range of styles, from the vivacious Mongolian mountain songs and gentle folk lullabies to the swing of 1930’s Shanghai jazz and modern Chinese pop. Friday 8 August, 12.00pm - 4.00pm Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Glasgow The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum will host a day of fun and action for all ages to mark the opening of the Beijing 2008 Olympics. 10.30am - join us in breaking the Guiness World record for the longest Chinese Whisper in the world. 12 noon – opening ceremony starts with South China’s famous, heart-stopping, exciting and colourful Drum Drama. Activities include: - Chinese music performance and workshop by Harmony
- Beijing Olympic Stadium model workshop
- Chinese art and craft workshops
- Chinese object handling sessions
- Mandarin lessons for beginners
- Martial arts, Kung Fu and Tai Chi demonstrations and participation

Silk Screens in Glasgow |

Saturday 19 July 2008, 12.00pm - 4.00pm BBC Scotland, Pacific Quay, Glasgow
In the run-up to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, SILK SCREENS comes to Glasgow as part of the River Festival. Comprising both live and on screen events SILK SCREENS LIVE will be themed on the Chinese element of water, represented by a giant moving turtle, and involving performances from professional and community Chinese artists. Glasgow's heavenly creature, the Turtle will form part of a magnificent performance based on a Chinese myth, the Eight Immortals Crossing the Seas. During the afternoon performing artists will delight audiences as they journey through the site and discover intimate performances, have the opportunity to offer incense offerings and create an evolving art installation on site. Harmony Chinese Music Ensemble will be showcasing a unique fusion of Scottish and Chinese music with improvisation at this exciting event. Ticket info: Free event |
